About Us
Establishment
The Centre for Human Rights Studies (CHRS) was established on February 152020, in Mogadishu. CHRS is an independent, non- profit-making organization. The founding members of the organization are Somalis from all walks of life- academics, professionals and human rights defenders who are committed to the cause of Human Rights, the Rule of Law and Democracy.
CHRS’s mission is to strengthen the capacity of Somali citizens, civil society, and state institutions to advance human rights, transitional justice, and accountable governance through rigorous research, strategic advocacy, legal aid, and empowering education.
C4HRS’s vision is that people everywhere enjoy a peaceful democratic system, stable, and prosperous Somalia where the human rights of all people are universally respected, protected, and fulfilled where citizens are autonomous, the rule of law prevails, and democracy are implemented.

The CHRS is a leading Somali non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to the promotion, protection, and advancement of human rights and democratic governance throughout Somalia.
Born from the resilience of the Somali people, CHRS is committed to addressing the profound human rights challenges arising from decades of conflict, climate shocks, and political fragility. We work at the grassroots and national levels to create a society where every individual can live with dignity, freedom, and justice.
